At the lovely Hotel Sofitel, our BayCFO Meeting on October 11th began with networking and our hosted cocktail hour, while our members and their guests nibbled on smoked salmon on potato cakes, individual bries en croute with pear chutney and, the especially delicious cocoanut chicken skewers with raspberry sauce. Delectable!

BayCFO Members at our October 11th Dinner Event

This event was sold out days before it was held so there was a big, enthusiastic crowd ready when it was time to be seated for dinner.

A full house at BayCFO!

After being seated, our guests were served Sausalito salad, with crabmeat, avocado salsa and terragon dressing. That was followed by our entree of baked mahi mahi with whole grain mustard crust covered with olive thyme beurre blanc, potato quiche with sundried tomatoes, and fresh seasonal vegetables. Another stellar effort by the Sofitel chefs! Wouldn't you like to have a nice evening with your colleagues and a gourmet meal? If so, come to our next BayCFO Dinner on January 17th, 2008 at the Stanford Park Hotel in Menlo Park...

This delicious course was then followed by a lovely banana caramel tartlet with rum vanilla sauce, coffee, and tea. BayCFO at the Hotel Sofitel

Happy Holidays
After our dinner, BayCFO President Joe Pelayo took the stage for some BayCFO
business

BayCFO President Joe Pelayo
Doug Hawkins, BayCFO Director, introduced our speaker, G. Steven Burrill, of Burrill & Company, who spoke on "Biotech 2007: A Global Transformation." His talk was a metrical overview of the biopharmaceuticals industry, where it is now, and where it's going in the 21st century. He explained how biotech is transforming the globe, from personalizing medicine to controlling aging. (Where do I sign up for that one??!)

Doug Hawkins introduces our speaker Steven Burrill

Steven told us that the effects of "Moore's Law" apply in biotech, where the cost per bit of biological information is rapidly decreasing as time passes. The consequences of this are staggering, although because of a flawed delivery system, advances can't be brought into the marketplace quickly enough. He said there needs to be international collaboration on disease, which knows no boundaries.

Brrrrrzzzzz!

With breakthroughs in stem cell research and personalized medicine via genetic tests, biotechnology is becoming increasingly important to our lives. Combining gene-based medicinal care with information technology will transform our lives and the future of biotechnology!

If you missed this meeting,
we're sure that you won't want to miss the next one!
Our next BayCFO Event, and first of the new year, will be held Thursday, January 17th, 2008 at the luxurious Stanford Park Hotel in Menlo Park, a new venue for us. Come to BayCFO and enjoy the company!
